Does washing clothes in cold water really save money? Do you ever remember learning the best way to wash your dishes?
As researchers, our curiosity can make the most seemingly mundane topics seem extraordinary. Which is why we jumped at the opportunity to explore consumers’ approaches to energy conservation when it comes to three simple tasks at home: laundry, dishes, heating and cooling. These three tasks are such integral parts of our everyday life is it easy for them to go unnoticed. Yet, once we deliberately shine the spotlight on these areas, we reveal behavioural insights that impact how British Columbians think about energy usage and conservation in their homes.
This research will be part of the line-up of speakers and posters presented at the BIG Difference BC 2020 Conference. BIG Difference BC brings together Behavioural Insights (BI) experts from academic and the non-profit sector and policy experts from all levels of government, Crown corporations, and industry to create a strong collaborative network that can work across boundaries to use behavioural insights to solve policy challenges in BC. We are very excited to be presenting alongside BC Hydro on Friday, November 6th and we would love for you to join us! You can sign up for this free conference here.
Lux’s Research Manager, Nicole Aleong, and Arien Korteland, Program Manager (Team Power Smart) at BC Hydro, will be sharing the behavioural insights that emerged after dissecting consumers’ views on at-home energy saving. This is a unique opportunity to hear more about how behavioural insights are driving change in the province. We hope to see you there!
